How to match a pool drain cover
Match a drain cover to the frame opening and to a flow rating at least as high as the pump on that line. Shut the pump off if the cover is cracked. A cover that only looks similar is the wrong part.

A drain cover is a safety part. If you are not sure the replacement is listed for that sump and that flow, have a qualified person confirm it before the pool is used.
Frame first, then flow
Measure the opening in the frame, not the tile around it. A round cover and a square cover of a similar width are different parts. Write down the brand molded into the cover or the frame, and any model on the underside. Photograph it before you throw the old cover away.
Read the flow rating, in gallons per minute, molded into the old cover. The replacement has to be rated for at least the flow of the pump on that suction line. A lower rating, or a cover made for a different frame, is not a cosmetic swap. The pump model is in equipment.
Leave a broken cover off the schedule
Do not run the pump with the cover off. The cover is what keeps that suction from becoming an entrapment point. If the cover is cracked or missing, shut the pump off until a listed replacement is on.
The new cover also has to fit the sump under it: screw pattern, sump depth, and whether the line is a single drain or a split pair.
